Twitter On Trial (2011)

Producer/Presenter (Apr-May 2011): 1 x 40’ documentary on social media with RTÉ Radio 1, Dublin, tx May 2011

Twitter On Trial gathered together five experienced tweeters, all from very different backgrounds, some better known than others, plus a complete Twitter newbie, to examine how the then 5-year-old social media tool actually works and why it may or may not be useful for listeners.

While trying to help the new kid on the block get their head around Twitter, everyone was set a wide variety of Twitter tasks – simple and difficult, serious and funny, quantitative and qualitative – to see how good it is at answering factual questions, organising things, getting in touch with strangers, etc.

All the while we eavesdroped on our participants’ conversations and questioned them, not only on their progress, but on their ongoing/developing relationship with Twitter itself.

While hugely informative it was also occasionally anarchic and unpredictable…and fun.

All in slightly more than 140 characters.

Participants: @Green23, @jenoconnell, @CKennedyPR, @sendboyle, @anniewestdotcom and then Twitter-virgin @PatrickFreyne1.
